SAN YSIDRO, CALIFORNIA is a community located close to San Diego, known perhaps best for its border crossing which happens to be the world's busiest on land. If you're heading into the area, it may be that you're making the trek into Mexico, or simply that you're coming to visit some of the best bars and restaurants that are located in the area. In any case, the following are our top favorite eateries and lounges in and around the 92143 zip code! We hope that you'll enjoy them as much as we do.
is a wonderful Mexican restaurant, perhaps one of the more expensive ones in the area, but it's certainly worth it for the high quality of the food and the closely personalized service. The waitstaff here really cares about the time that you have in their restaurant, and they put in a lot of effort to make sure that it's as good as it can get. We love the Queso Fundido, and the chips and salsa are really mouth wateringly good here. Try the Mole Chilaquiles! Wow! You'll find Achiote Restaurant on Camino De La Plaza, near the intersection with Camiones Way.
is a really great Asian restaurant that also offers incredible sushi, and we love it because it's casual, comfortable, and affordable. It's surprising what great food you can get here for such a low price. We really love the lunches with the soup and salad all you can eat for just under seven dollars. On Fridays and Saturdays you can enjoy the live music, or sit by the bar and enjoy some sports on TV and watch the tropical fish swimming by in the beautiful aquarium. We love the garlic noodles with shrimp, and the green tea ice cream is just amazing. You'll find Iron Wok Asian Bistro at 4191 Camino De La Plaza.
has to get our recommendation here because it's such a huge part of California culture! It's been going strong since 1951, and as you probably already know, Jack in the Box is the restaurant that first introduced the drive thru to the masses! How could we not show mad respect for that? If nothing else you've got to appreciate their business sense. We love their burgers and fries, and most highly recommend their Jumbo Jack! You can find this Jack in the Box location on West San Ysidro Boulevard between Averil Road and Alverson Road!
is one of those American traditions that we just had to include on this list. After a late night at the bars, what better place is there to get your grub on and eat away that buzz? We love the breakfast that's served all day long, but anything on the menu is great. Great chicken strips, tasty burgers, flavorful wings... They've got every American classic here that you could ever think of. Great drinks, great staff, great atmosphere. You will find this Denny's location on East Calle Primero between Sycamore Road and Willow Road.
of course stands for International House of Pancakes, and it's fitting that we'd mention this one and Denny's one after another. We love 'em both for their breakfasts, but their lunches and dinners are great too! IHOP has been serving California since 1958 if you can believe that, and after so many years they've got pleasing customers down to a science. We love their salads and wraps the best, and their soups are also really great. Possibly the best cheap meal around! Find it on Camino De La Plaza between Louisiana Avenue and Virginia Avenue.
is one fast food restaurant that we really can't get enough of. They are known for their big juicy burgers, and after about seventy years in business, they've certainly cemented themselves into California culture as well as becoming one of the largest franchises on the West Coast. We love that six dollar Angus burger, but really everything on the menu is juicy and good! Try the grilled cheese burger! So good. You can find this Carls Jr location on West San Ysidro Boulevard near the intersection with Sunset Lane.
is your place to go in San Ysidro for really great bakery items, tasty sandwiches, homemade soups, wonderful wings, flavorful wraps, and crisp fresh salads. The staff here is always so friendly and happy when we come in, and we really love the overall feel of this place. Very cool and relaxed. You can't go wrong with anything that you order here. It's all fantastic and highly recommended! Find Coco's Bakery Restaurant on West San Ysidro Boulevard near the intersection with Sunset Lane.
... the name may make it sound a bit out of place here on the West Coast, but this taste of NYC right here in San Ysidro is definitely a good thing! The pizzas are great, but don't overlook the other things on the menu because they are perhaps even better. We love the steak kabobs, the submarine sandwiches, the lasagnas, and the hamburgers. The prices for everything are incredibly reasonable, and it's just a fun place to get some really good grub. You'll find East Coast Giant Pizza on West San Ysidro Boulevard between Averil Road and Alverson Road.
is a great little Mexican kitchen that we fell in love with so many years ago. The quality has remained consistent through all the changing years, and we just love to visit this restaurant whenever we're in the San Ysidro area. Our favorite thing is the Tacos Dorados with either chicken or beef, and the bean dip with cheese is unbelievable. Try their beef soup too, it really warms your soul. We absolutely adore this restaurant and recommend it most highly to you! Located on West San Ysidro Boulevard near the intersection with Cottonwood Road.
is one of our favorite Asian restaurants in San Ysidro, with some truly wonderful items that are spread out on their generous buffet. We love the orange chicken, and the egg rolls are really stupendous! They've got some American favorites tucked away there too, including some really tasty French fries. Be sure to try this spot next time you're in the area! You can find it at 551 East San Ysidro Boulevard.
