PACIFIC BEACH, CALIFORNIA, or "P.B." as it is known to the locals, is one of the neighborhoods within San Diego, surrounded by Mission Bay, La Jolla, and Mission Beach. This area for many years was predominantly made up of college students and surfers, but as the cost of living has increased, the population is gradually shifting to a more mature and affluent crowd. This is one of the hottest spots for nightlife in the San Diego area, and it also has many restaurants and shops. If you'll be visiting the Pacific Beach area, these are your best bets for dining and drinking in the 92019 zip code!
is a wonderful contemporary restaurant that has a gorgeous view, and we love the upscale ambiance that's really perfect for those special occasions and romantic dates! The food and the service are both fantastic. We love the JRDN Salad, and the sushi is fantastic. They've also got a really divine chocolate mousse that makes a perfect dessert. Dining outdoors, and also taking advantage of the bar area, are two true pleasures. Dining here does more than just taste good, it's a complete sensory experience. You can find JRDN Restaurant on Felspar Street near the intersection with Ocean Boulevard.
is one of our favorite seafood restaurants in the Pacific Beach area, partly because of their happy hour which stretches from 4:30 PM to closing! They've got fabulous seafood here, a beautiful view, and some of the best bloody marys you'll ever have. Breakfast is great too, and there are plenty of nice extras here including a nut encrusted brie that we cannot resist. The service can be a little bit slow here in our experience, so arrive early and give yourself plenty of extra time. You'll find World Famous on Pacific Beach Drive between Strand Way and Ocean Front Walk.
is rumored to be the very best and the very freshest sushi in the entire San Diego area! After several visits we'd say we agree with that. Many people take issue with the higher prices here, so we'll tell you about that up front. But we do feel that it's worth it. We love the tuna sashimi and the chef's specials, and all of the traditional rolls are very good here. The service is outstanding, very friendly and fast. You can find Sushi Ota at Mission Bay Drive near the intersection with Bunker Hill Street.
's Pacific Beach location is one of our favorite Mexican restaurants in the area. We always order the blackened mahi mahi when we come here, but we have it on good authority from our friends that everything else on the menu is top notch too! They've done some renovation on the interior in recent times, so if you haven't been there in a little while, it's a good time to go check it out again. We love sitting under the hut! You will find this location on Grand Avenue between Cass Street and Bayard Street.
Broken Yolk Cafe
has a great mix of American favorites and Latin and Mexican dishes that will really please your tummy and your tastebuds! It can be a little more expensive than what you're used to, but it's so unique and eclectic that we say it's worth it. The breakfast is our favorite, though you'll have to deal with some pretty long lines on the weekends for it. Great burritos and sandwiches too! You'll find Broken Yolk Cafe on Garnet Avenue between Kendall Street and Lamont Street.
The Green Flash - CLOSED
is all about fresh and delicious meals, served with a friendly smile and at an affordable cost. We love this place. They've got a delicious blackened fish sandwich that is so fresh and flavorful! Great Baja Veggie Burgers too. The surf and turf is probably our favorite item on the menu, and we love the breakfasts here too. Try the huevos rancheros! The staff has got to be one of the most welcoming and inviting that we've ever encountered. In business since 1990! You can find The Green Flash on Thomas Avenue near the intersection with Ocean Boulevard.
Pacific Beach Bar & Grill - CLOSED
is a great little bar with a convenient location in P.B. where you can enjoy either the indoor ambiance or the great outdoor seating area when the weather is right. This bar has been open since 1994, and it's got a great mixture of people who frequent the place. Taco Tuesday is our favorite day of the week! They've got great appetizers here too and a lot of great beers on draft. Pacific Beach Bar & Grill can be found on Garnet Avenue between Bayard Street and Mission Boulevard.
is of course located at 976 Felspar Street, and we just love the cafe vibe here. It's got a very outdoor/garden feel to it even though it's situated in the great indoors. The location couldn't be any more convenient when you're visiting Pacific Beach, right in the middle of it all. And best of all, that food! The spinach burrito is so good! The tacos are also great, and that says a lot because we're not usually taco fans! It's been in business since 1993, and that's quite a long while with the short shelf life or restaurants nowadays! It's lasted for a reason. You can find Cafe 976 on Felspar Street between Cass Street and Bayard Street.
Costa Brava Spanish Restaurant
is a very romantic and elegant spot where you'll enjoy delicious tapas, fine wines, and service that is truly worth talking about. We haven't been treated to this kind of service in a very long time. The chef is a true expert, and the owner is very pleasant and always around too. We love to come in and watch the soccer matches here. Great atmosphere, wonderful service, just an all around beautiful dining experience. Located on Garnet Avenue between Ingraham Street and Jewell Street.
Tavern at the Beach
is the perfect spot to gather with friends to enjoy some wonderful mixed drinks, ice cold beers on tap, or perhaps a glass of that fine wine that you've been craving. It's a relatively laid back atmosphere here, but since it's a smaller and more intimate place, it can get pretty crowded on the weekend evenings. The staff here is very friendly and they always make us feel right at home. You can locate Tavern at the Beach on Garnet Avenue between Fanuel Street and Everts Street.
