ESCONDIDO, CALIFORNIA is one of the larger cities in San Diego County, with an impressive total of nearly 150,000 residents at last count in January of 2010. Escondido actually means hidden, which is a perfect meaning for this city that is situated in a valley surrounded by hills. It's actually one of the oldest cities in the county, and yet it's very alive in the present, with many attractions bringing people into the downtown area. Cruisin' Grand is very popular with car enthusiasts every September, and there are many wonderful art galleries to enjoy, as well as the Mingei International Museum. If you're coming to Escondido, you'll need to know where to eat. These are our top choices in the 92025, 92026, 92027, and 92029 zip codes!
Stone Brewing World Bistro & Gardens
is a very eclectic restaurant that we have come to enjoy in recent years. It's been in business since 2006, and there's no question that it will remain in the years to come because of the incredible outdoor seating area and all those wonderful microbrews that make it such a hot destination. It's great for dates and group outings, and both the food and drinks are top notch! Great service too. You can find Stone Brewing World Bistro & Gardens on Citracado Parkway near the intersection with Rancheros Drive.
Tango Restaurant & Lounge - CLOSED
is one of the newest restaurants in the San Diego area, and if you haven't tried it yet, we highly recommend that you do. The ambiance is truly something special, very warm and inviting. We really love the appetizers and the wine list here, and the entrees are just incredible. Some people don't like the high prices here (as much as thirty dollars for some entrees), but we really think it's worth it if you're the type who understands that you get what you pay for. It's located on West Grand Avenue near the intersection with North Orange Street.
Vincent's Sirinos Restaurant
is one of our very favorite French restaurants in the world, and it's located conveniently right here in Escondidos! The food and the ambiance are both nothing short of excellent! We love the dishes that are so hard to find at other restaurants, like the lamb, duck, and rabbit entrees. The soups are also very rare and unique, and the wine list is noteworthy too. You will love the personalized service and the beautiful atmosphere. You can find this one on West Grand Avenue between South Maple Street and South Broadway.
really knows how to prepare and serve some of the best Mexican food in all of San Diego County. It's reasonably priced and presented in a very nice yet casual atmosphere, so you can really kick back and enjoy yourself whether you're on a date or on a group outing with your friends or coworkers. We love the margaritas here, and the tacos and burritos are just amazing. Note that they also have breakfast here too! You will find Mi Guadalajara on West 2nd Avenue near the intersection with South Pine Street.
Brigantine Seafood Restaurant
always gets our highest recommendation, and that's because their food is simply impeccable. They've got wonderful drinks too, and the staff is always very attentive and helpful during your visit. We really love the outdoor patio, and the bar area is very charming and comfortable too. Try the clam chowder, and of course those amazing fish tacos! You can find Brigantine Seafood Restaurant on West Felicita Avenue near the intersection with South Escondido Boulevard.
Filippi's Pizza Grotto
is simply the best place for pizza in Escondido, hands down. We like the retro atmosphere that's completely free of pretense, and they've got a wonderful wine list here too. Be sure to try their wonderful pastas, and their salads and garlic bread too. You'll be surprised at the great prices here as well! Filippi's Pizza Grotto is located on West Grand Avenue between North Broadway and North Maple Street.
Hacienda De Vega
is a much more upscale Mexican restaurant than the other places that you're probably used to in town, and that's what makes it one of our favorites. We love that authentic Spanish decor, and the rustic feel that permeates the atmosphere. The chips and salsa are really wonderful here, and we think they're a perfect starter before their unbelievable Enchiladas Poblanas. Wow, everything here is just SO good. Wonderful place to dine any day of the week, and especially nice for those special occasions. You can find Hacienda De Vega on South Escondido Boulevard near the intersection with Cranston Drive.
Cocina Del Charro
has become one of our favorite places to grab some fresh Mexican fare, because it's got such a cozy atmosphere where you can really kick back and feel comfortable, and of course the food is just truly top notch. The margaritas are mixed just perfectly to please your tastebuds, and we love their Supreme Nachos. Sunday brunch is a tradition here, and since they've been open since 1986, you know it's a great place... what restaurant lasts that long without being something really special? This place is a definite winner. You can find it on North Quince Street near the intersection with Gannon Place.
R. O'Sullivan's Irish Pub
is one of the very best bars in all of Escondido, and the reason that we love it so much is because of that relaxing Irish pub atmosphere. They don't stop there though. They have the best food of all the bars in the area, and there is often live music keeping the place jumping with energy. These are really great bands too, not just anybody can get a gig here. We highly recommend the corned beef and cabbage! It's so good! You'll find R. O'Sullivan's Irish Pub on East Grand Avenue near the intersection with South Broadway.
is a very nice place to spend an evening away from it all, soaking up the ambiance and sipping on some of the best mixed drinks you'll ever taste. We love Power Hour on Mondays when you can get fifty cent draft beers, and they often have theme parties here that can get pretty wild and crazy! They've always got drink specials to help you save a few bucks, if you can get up the nerve to order some of them by name! Ha! You'll love this bar. You can find it at 200 West El Norte Parkway.
